  • the smaller rectangular area which is inside the larger rectangle
  • boundary lines are drawn 5.5m (6 yds) inside the pitch from the goal posts and goal line
  • goal kicks are taken in this area
• Penalty area (box)
  • is the larger rectangular area
  • boundary lines are drawn 16.5m (18 yds) inside the pitch from the goal posts and goal line
  • a penalty spot is marked 11m (12 yds) from the middle of the goal

1. All lines must be of the same width, which must not be more than 12 cm (5 in).
2. The longer lines on the side of the pitch are the touchlines.
3. The shorter lines at the end of the pitch are the goal lines.
